Divisions > Parenting

To Kindle a Soul is a unique approach to parenting which combines cutting-edge behavioral and developmental Psychology research with time tested Jewish wisdom to speak directly and poignantly to issues facing today’s contemporary families. To Kindle a Soul teaches the fundamental principles of human growth and development. It trains parents to apply these principles to every situation that arises without the need for “tricks or techniques.”

J-Family’s To Kindle a Soul Parenting programs are conducted in partnership with JCC’s, ederations, Temples and Synagogues of all denominations, Chavurahs, and individuals to create programs tailor made to meet the needs of the respective communities. Programs include ongoing, multi-modular workshops, one-day or half-day mini-seminars, or whole-family weekend retreats. Typically, the programs are social as well as educational providing participants ample opportunity to bond and connect with other parents with similar age children.

Modular Workshops
Module I - Introduction and Methodology
(3 Sessions)

The goal of Module I is to introduce participants to concepts of Chinuch (Jewish Parenting), Proactive vs. Reactive Parenting, Planting and Building, and Human Growth/Transformative Tasks. Strong emphasis is placed on practical applications and parents will have the opportunity to practice “at home” the concepts, bringing feedback and comment to future discussions.
Module II – Proactive Parenting: Planting/
Building Seminar (3 Sessions)

Module II deepens participants understanding of the Planting and Building Growth Tools, and provides practical tools for implementing these mechanisms in daily
home life. The sessions will also instruct parents how to identify character traits, and to differentiate “traits” from “behaviors” and “inbred tendencies.”
Module III – Painless Parenting:
Discipline Seminar (3 Sessions)

Module III will address the most common questions and challenges of Parenting; corporal punishment, time-outs, defi ant talking, and uncooperative behavior.
Emphasis will be placed on research in Attention and Affection including tools to implementing both behaviors in the home.

One-Day Workshop
Our full-day or half-day Parenting Workshops provide the opportunity for parents to experience a taste of the TKAS program within a more manageable commitment of time. Each event will combine the basic principles upon which TKAS is built, along with a customized program tailor-made to address different age groups and social or demographic needs. The day will include multi-media presentations, handson practicum, and group discussions.

Weekend Retreat
Parents can join together with others from throughout their geographic region who share a commitment and dedication to raising happy, healthy, independent, value-driven kids, for a unbelievable Shabbat experience. Participants will have the opportunity to relax and unwind away from the pressures and stresses of the work-week, and indulge themselves in a taste of the TKAS program. The weekend schedule will include sessions dedicated to parents and parenting, a full service, professional youth program, and exciting family-building activities integrating the tools and and skills of TKAS in a hands-on living laboratory environment.
