FAQ

What is J-Family?
J-Family, the Jewish Family Enrichment Project is a unique resource for individuals and organizations, providing programs in parenting, marriage, and family education to help enrich and foster healthy and happy Jewish homes. We run seminars, workshops, retreats and consulting services in communities throughout the tri-state area and across North America. Find out more about us here (link to "about us" page)

I'm not religious. Does that matter?
Though J-Family and its curriculum are definitively Jewish, there is nothing in any of our programs that presume any level of religious observance or knowledge. We work in partnership with Jewish organizations across the denominational spectrum. Take a look at our "Affiliates" page to get a sense of the breadth of our relationships.

Who teaches these classes?
J-Family's directors, Rabbi Josh and Aviva Kohl, have about 2 decades of combined experience in family education. They have been certified both in Marriage and Parenting education, and have created and been instrumental in the lives of hundreds of families throughout the country. In addition, J-Family employs experts in various fields as guest lecturers in their numerous programs.

There are no J-Family programs in my area, what should I do?
There are 3 different ways to access J-Family programs.
1. speak to the educational director at your local JCC, temple, or school and have them contact us about setting up a program.
2. get together a group of friends and start your own program in your home, at your schedule, with your friends.
3. if all else fails, check us out in cyberspace. we've created a partnership with projectsinai.org, the leading providor of interactive Jewish education on the internet to offer programs on our own channel. it's a work in progress, but check out j-family.projectsinai.org and see what's up.

Do J-Family programs cost?
There are some programs that cost, and some that are offered free of charge. In general, when costs permit, we try to offer introductory programs at little or no charge to enable people to see for themselves the value of the program. Our retreats, and ongoing workshops are generally structured to be managable for an average family. The Jewish Family Enrichment Project is incorporated in the State of New York as a Not for Profit corporation and our IRS 501(c)3 application is pending approval.

Do I have to come with my spouse? S/He doesn't want to come.
Ideally, a couple working on this material together is ideal as it's critical for you both to be on the same page whether it's in the area of parenting or marriage skills development. That said, sometimes schedules don't permit it. All of our programs are recorded and available for participants to review material that was covered.
